Wet Field/Rain Policy

Thunderstorms

In the event of lightning any time within 30 minutes of practice or games, all activity must be cancelled or suspended.  If suspended, activity can only resume 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder.

Rain

Many of the best childhood memories are made by playing soccer in the rain and no games are canceled just because it is raining.  However, the fields must be in a safe playing condition and we must not damage the fields.  See below for criteria of how to determine if a field is playable.  If the field IS playable and there are no club wide cancellations, game on!

How do I Determine if the Fields are Playable

When there has been rain in the area, coaches must consult the City of Roseville for field conditions.  This can be done either by calling the field hotline at 916-746-1257 or by visiting the website at the link below.

Any fields marked "Closed" must cancel activity for that day.  Any fields marked as "Reinspect" should be reviewed by the coach or team representative.  Coaches are empowered to determine if the field is playable on the following guidelines:

  • There is NO standing water anywhere on the field
  • Your shoes don't sink when walking on the field
  • Grass cannot be easily dislodged from the surface by normal play

Should any of the above conditions be present, the activity should be cancelled.   Please remember, if any damage is done to the fields under these conditions, the club is responsible to the city to pay for any repairs.

Additionally, the fields at Maidu Park will be treated with special care. The Club President or Director of Soccer may cancel activity at that park even when the city lists the fields as playable. Finally, the club reserves the right to cancel practices or games at a club wide level.  Announcements of club wide cancellations are typically made through TeamSnap and social media.

City of Roseville Field Conditions

Rain Outs - cancellations

In the event that the Club or the City closes the fields on gameday, the club will try to re-schedule the gameday on the 'alternative' last weekend of the season (Game day #11). The age specific coaching directors will communicate with team coaches directly and re-schedule games where possible.  Please note, there is only one (1) alternative weekend per season so if multiple games are cancelled, not all games can be re-scheduled.  NO games will be played after Nov. 30th.
