Dear Roseville Soccer Families,
The Roseville Youth Soccer Club is one of the largest, community-based youth soccer programs in Northern California. Unfortunately, it has become clear, due to COVID 19 and current restrictions put in place to stop the community spread, that generating a traditional recreational fall league event this year, is just not feasible given the circumstances that we find ourselves in. Therefore, the Roseville Board decided last night to cancel the 2020 recreational season for U9-U19, however the U6-U8 teams will continue to be formed and play in-house provided there is guidance to open in August.
Due to Covid-19 there is a phased approach to implement soccer in Placer County.
▪Phase 1: no contact practicing, no scrimmaging, and limited to players in pods of 12. This is estimated to continue for 4-6 weeks.
▪Phase 2: some limited contact- maybe 2v2 or 4v4, and still no full scrimmaging. There is no timeline as to when that will begin or end.
▪Phase 3: might include scrimmages
▪Phase 4: likely full games.
There has been no guidance provided by the county, state or sanctioning soccer body as to when these phases would start. With so little guidance the board felt it was in the best interest to cancel the season for all but the younger teams. The younger teams play small-sided games and have smaller rostered teams. They would be best suited to play sooner in Phases 2/3. The season might start later in August for them and games could begin by September 12, ending on November 21. The older teams need to be able to have larger groups and have games and scrimmages begin sooner than the phases would allow. It was not worth the health risk to attempt to condense all these larger teams in a tight window, that was clearly not 100% open for soccer.
We are working on some options for the summer for those still interested in continuing soccer.
▪We will be forming camps soon and will provide families with those dates and times, outlining how the camps could safely operate with social distancing.
▪We will be offering free coach education classes to continue development for our volunteer coaches
▪We still have our U8 Academy for players born in 2013 as another alternative for those players who are in between recreational and competitive levels.
All U9-U19 families will receive a 100% refund. For those U6-U8 families we will continue to process your registration for the season. We expect to know so much more in August as to if soccer will be back to normal, which is when we will then make the final call on the U6-U8 programs. If there is a season, we will work to make it amazing. If there is no season, then you, too, will be refunded.
We are sad that the soccer season will look so different this year.
Thank you all for your time and patience.
