In the event of lightning any time within 30 minutes of practice or games, all activity must be cancelled or suspended. If suspended, activity can only resume 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder.
Many of the best childhood memories are made by playing soccer in the rain and no games are canceled just because it is raining. However, the fields must be in a safe playing condition and we must not damage the fields. See below for criteria of how to determine if a field is playable. If the field IS playable and there are no club wide cancellations, game on!
When there has been rain in the area, coaches must consult the City of Roseville for field conditions. This can be done either by calling the field hotline at 916-746-1257 or by visiting the website at the link below.
Any fields marked "Closed" must cancel activity for that day. Any fields marked as "Reinspect" should be reviewed by the coach or team representative. Coaches are empowered to determine if the field is playable on the following guidelines:
Should any of the above conditions be present, the activity should be cancelled. Please remember, if any damage is done to the fields under these conditions, the club is responsible to the city to pay for any repairs.
Additionally, the fields at Maidu Park will be treated with special care. The Club President or Director of Soccer may cancel activity at that park even when the city lists the fields as playable. Finally, the club reserves the right to cancel practices or games at a club wide level. Announcements of club wide cancellations are typically made through TeamSnap and social media.
In the event that the Club or the City closes the fields on gameday, the club will try to re-schedule the gameday on the 'alternative' last weekend of the season (Game day #11). The age specific coaching directors will communicate with team coaches directly and re-schedule games where possible. Please note, there is only one (1) alternative weekend per season so if multiple games are cancelled, not all games can be re-scheduled. NO games will be played after Nov. 30th.
At temperatures between 100F and 104.9F coaches should take care in practice and games with frequent water breaks, substitutions, and reduced exertion. Younger age groups at the U6-U12 level should be especially conservative. Players with heat sensitivity should sit out.
At temperatures at and above 105F, practice and games must be cancelled.
Coaches are responsible to monitor the forecast for the location & time of practice & games, and to notify their team accordingly. There is no requirement for advance notice as real time decisions at the field may be required in some cases, but coaches are encouraged to provide advance notice to teams when possible on hot days.
NOTE: tournament games are subject to the rules of the specific tournament with the tournament director being the final decision maker.
The club uses the website breezometer.com measure the AQI index. Coaches are encouraged to not just look at the current AQI reading on this site but also consider the Hourly Forecast further down the page.
To check the AQI, please click link below:
Air Quality Index (AQI) below 100: Activities allowed
Air Quality Index (AQI) between 100-127 Parents can hold their child out of practice. Coaches are to minimize aerobic activity at practice. Coaches may cancel if they feel that conditions merit it.
127 Air Quality Index (AQI) If the Air Quality in the greater Roseville area is greater than 127, all training and soccer activities for all RYSC teams MUST be cancelled
Unfortunately, readings are not real time and there can be a lag of an hour or more between when the readings are recorded and when they are updated on the website. Due to a sudden shift in winds f.e. conditions can be better or worse than what is being reported. After 3:30pm (which typically is the updated 3pm reading) if the club has not canceled training that day, it becomes the coaches’ and parents responsibility to monitor the AQI.
Parents and coaches to use their best judgement if conditions are safe. If you can see the smoke, smell it, or the kids are complaining about itchy throats or having trouble breathing, then the soccer training should be cancelled immediately.
Coaches and parents are encouraged to always keep the health and safety of our players at the forefront of any decision.
Air Quality Index (AQI) below 127: Activities allowed
Air Quality Index (AQI) between 127-150 If the Air Quality in the greater Roseville area is greater than 127 Air Quality Index (AQI), all RYSC coaches are strongly encouraged to cancel practice, and/or conduct a limited exertion or “walk through” practice only.
Air Quality Index (AQI) above 150 If the Air Quality in Roseville area is greater than 150 Air Quality Index (AQI), all practices for all RYSC teams MUST be cancelled.
On the ground conditions may merit further cancellation at the discretion of the board.
