RECREATIONAL SOCCER REGISTRATION overview

Schedule

The exact schedule for the 2023 fall season has not been determined.  Generally speaking the schedule is approximately as follows

  • March- May 31: Fall season registration.
  • Late July: Coaches meeting and information available on team placement.  (Coaches will begin contacting teams after this date)
  • Mid-August: Practices begin (most age groups.  Super Rec U15+ may be sooner)
  • Last Saturday in August: First game (most age groups.  Super Rec U15+ may be sooner)
  • Labor Day weekend: No soccer
  • Early October: Mid season break  & At The Break Tournament
  • Mid-November: Last scheduled game
  • Saturday before Thanksgiving: Hold date for makeup games if necessary due to smoke, high temperature, or rain cancelations earlier in the season

What is Next after Registration?

Once registration is closed, we know everyone is excited to learn details of your season.  Here is a timeline of activities to expect:

  • June 1 - Mid-July: The registrar is busy setting up teams & Age Group Directors are busy ensuring every team has a coach.  With almost 3500 kids in our program, this takes a lot of time
  • Late July: The annual coaches meeting will be held to inform coaches of their teams, how to set practice schedules, etc.  Coach recruitment continues for teams without a coach
  • Late July - Early August: Coaches will contact players on their teams to introduce themselves.  Coaches will also determine the practice schedule and inform that schedule to the team.  Please do NOT contact the registrar asking about practice schedule as only the coaches determine the practice schedule.
  • Mid-August: first week of practices (for most teams, note that older Super Rec teams may begin sooner)
  • Last Saturday in August: first games (note: older Super Rec teams may begin sooner)

If you are a player, the first communications you receive about the season will be from your coach in early August.  In the meantime, please be sure to purchase your uniform from Kombat Soccer and review our FAQ's below for useful information like what size ball to use, how long are games, is heading allowed, and much more.

FAQ's

Uniforms

RYSC has partnered with Kombat soccer to provide uniforms for the club.  Uniforms first used in the 2021 & 2022 Fall season are the same style for 2023, thus can be re-used or handed down for the 2023 season.

In Recreational soccer there is no requirement for a unique number so you can ask for your favorite number.  If this field is left blank, a random number will be assigned to you.

Registration Fees

The registration fee has not been determined for the 2023 season. Late registrations are subject to a waitlist and a late fee.

What is Needed

You will be required to upload a copy of your player's birth certificate while registering. Please have this digital copy available before you begin. Hospital and Baptismal certificates are not accepted. It must be an official copy or passport. If yours is lost, damaged, or stolen, you will need to work with the California Department of Vital Records in obtaining a replacement.

You will be required to upload a digital photo while registering. Please have this available before you begin. No hats, no sunglasses and please only a photo of the face.

Returning Players

The registration system for 2023 is the same as 2022, thus your information previously entered should transfer over.  New pictures are required each (since the kids grow so fast).

Financial Aid

Our mission as a club is that no player will be denied the ability to play soccer based on financial hardship, their ethnicity, or their background.

If approved for our financial aid program, RYSC will waive your player’s registration fee and ask that you volunteer for the Club a minimum of 4 hours. The Club has a variety of opportunities volunteer hours including field rehabilitation, equipment handout events, tournament help, etc.

Is heading the ball allowed?

I'm on the Waitlist, when will I hear something?

For players in the U12 and older age groups, heading of the ball is allowed.

For players in the U11 and younger age groups, intentional heading of the ball is not allowed and is sanctioned by an indirect free kick.

NOTE: if any player from a U11 age group or younger plays up into a U12+ match, that player must be identified to the official and cannot intentionally head the ball.

I'm on the Waitlist, when will I hear something?

Unfortunately, There are no guarantees on timing for the waitlist. Generally the teams will be rostered by the coaches meeting and after that the registrar can begin reviewing waitlist applications so a first round will be let in early/mid-August as open spots allow.

Players withdraw for a variety of reasons throughout August all the way up to the first game and every withdrawal opens a spot for someone thus there is still hope all the way up to the end of August.

Does RYSC supply referees for games?

I'm on the Waitlist, when will I hear something?

Does RYSC supply referees for games?

Our referee assignors work to supply three referees for all U11 through U19 games, and one referee for all U9 & U10 games.  The 4v4 games played by U6-8 ages are officiated by the coaches.

There is a referee shortage across the region and we expect some games to not have official referees.  In these instances the home team should provide a volunteer parent.  RYSC offers training for parent volunteers.  Contact us at referee.assignor@rosevillesoccer.com for more info on training opportunities.

Why do we require a new picture every season?

Why do we require a new picture every season?

Why do we require a new picture every season?

The photos are used to make “player cards”, which the referees check before each game to verify that the player belongs on the team.  We need current pictures of each player.

Why are birth certificates required?

Why do we require a new picture every season?

Why do we require a new picture every season?

We need an official copy of the birth certificate to verify age.  At these young age groups, even one year of developmental difference can have a huge impact on fairness of the game.

We can not accept “unofficial” birth certificates issued by a hospital.

Why do you limit the number of registrations?

What is the difference between Rec and Comp Soccer?

What is the difference between Rec and Comp Soccer?

The club prides ourselves on providing a quality experience to our members.  We've learned the hard way that there is a limit to the number of teams we can support with the available fields in Roseville.  As city builds new parks, we expect to be able to support growth in the future.  You can best support our efforts here by communicating the need for increased field availability to your city council representative.

RYSC is by far the biggest recreational program in the region but there are simply limits to the available resources while still providing a good experience without additional parks from the city.

Most soccer players in RYSC play at the Recreation level.  For those players in age groups U9-U19 who are looking for more of a challenge and possess the skills necessary to compete at that level can tryout for Competitive teams with Roseville Premier, the competitive side out our club. Those interested MUST attend Competitive level tryouts to be eligible to play.  Tryouts are held in the spring of each year.
